What My Dog Taught Me About Life, Business, and Letting Go
Meet Jack, my adventurous 6-year-old collie mix. He's one of the best companions I could ask for, but today, I want to share how he taught me a powerful lesson about over-worrying and over-controlling.
A few years ago, I took Jack to a large off-leash park. It was spring, lush green grass, growing bushes, and soft, damp ground. At some point, Jack started playing with two other dogs, getting in and out of the bushes near a fence that separated the park from a major highway.
Then, something happened. The other two dogs ran back to their owners. Jack didn't.
I called his name. Nothing. I waited. Still nothing. Minutes passed, and my mind went into overdrive. Did he slip through the fence? Did he get hurt? Was he lost?
Panic took over, and I rushed into the bushes, frantically searching for him.
After 15 exhausting minutes, I finally spotted him, 300 meters away, covered head to toe in mud, grinning like he had just returned from Disney for dogs, definitely the best day of his life.
That's when it hit me. I had let fear take over. I assumed the worst instead of trusting him to do what he does best, be a dog.
And we do the same thing in life, business, and our careers. We overcontrol. We micromanage. We panic when things don't go as planned. Instead of letting our business adapt to market shifts, we force it into rigid structures. Instead of allowing our careers to evolve, we hold on to outdated strategies. And instead of trusting the process, we stress over every possible failure.
But success isn't about controlling every detail. It's about trusting the system, adjusting to challenges, and allowing growth to happen naturally.
So, stop over-worrying. Let things evolve. And when life gets messy? Dig into the mud and make it your own Disney.
