🏆 CHAMPION Series – Post 3 of 7: Measurable 📐
What is CHAMPION? CHAMPION is a framework designed to align your team with your business mission, vision, and goals, unlocking their potential and keeping engagement and motivation at all-time highs.
In this third post, let's focus on Measurable Goals, the "M" in CHAMPION.
Progress toward your business goals is essential, but how do you know if you're heading in the right direction? That's where having a clear and efficient way to measure progress comes in.
The Key to Measurement: Effective measurement requires understanding three aspects:
1 - Where you're starting
2 - Where you want to go (your finish line)
3 - How your progress aligns with the plan
To measure effectively, let's explore two important concepts:
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): These metrics track whether your team or organization is achieving specific objectives. KPIs give you a snapshot of how well you're progressing toward your goals.
Lead Indicators: These are predictive metrics that forecast the likelihood of success. Unlike lagging indicators (which show past results), lead indicators focus on the actions driving future outcomes. Think of them as your early warning system, allowing you to adjust strategies proactively.
Why Both Are Critical: While KPIs measure progress, Lead Indicators help you determine if your progress is on the right track or if course corrections are needed. Together, they enable you to predict success, optimize strategies, and ensure your goals are both challenging and achievable.
For example, if your KPI is to "increase sales by 20% this quarter," a lead indicator might be the number of new client meetings scheduled weekly. If that lead indicator isn't improving, it signals a need for action before the quarter ends.
Developing strong KPIs and Lead Indicators for your business goals ensures you can:
📈 Predict success and adjust in real-time.
🤓 Determine if your goals are appropriately challenging (see Post 1: Challenge).
👍 Confirm they are achievable (see Post 2: Achievable).
Now, how do you ensure your team understands the direction and pace needed to achieve these goals? That's the focus of the next post: Purpose-Driven. Stay tuned!
