In 2003, I was leading capital projects at an extra heavy oil production facility. Most of my projects were small to medium-sized, and I had a solid engineering, procurement, and construction management team working alongside me. The facility was producing more gas than it could handle, and regulations required that we either process it or shut down production. The company had already launched a mega project to build a gas treatment facility, but that would take years. We didn't have years. We had months.
My job was to install three temporary rental compressor stations in under a year, something that had never been done before at this scale.

Despite the challenges, we moved fast. Engineering was approved, procurement started, and mobilization kicked off. Then, out of nowhere, a union coup halted everything for a month. It was completely out of our control, but we adapted, recalibrated, and pushed forward.
When the compressors finally started running, the results spoke for themselves:
🏆 The project was delivered 99% within budget and 96% on schedule, even after accounting for the delay.
🏆 The compressors exceeded expectations with 99% availability, above the 96% spec.
🏆 Most importantly, safety was impeccable, only one near miss, zero incidents during the construction phase.
